Originating in traditional public health engineering, with the progress of industrialization and urbanization, the discipline has expanded to involve the treatment of air, water, and soil pollution, waste treatment, and sustainable management of resources. Urban planning and design in this interdisciplinary field, mainly refers to urban design and environmental design.
